It was fun for me to solve problems by giving kids what they needed. Each student had their own problem, and finding the right item or solution was a big part of the adventure. It made the game fun and kept things interesting while I looked around the school.
This is adorable -- I was very much the kind of kid who pretended to be a noir detective all the time, so I found it relatable in a way that was probably not intended, but that I found very enjoyable. It's a great parody of the genre!
Great game! Made a fantastic first impression, and the music was great to listen to for the whole playtime. Great writing on Rhubarb's inner monologue as well; I enjoyed giving it my best readthrough as I played, haha
Admittedly the battery-retrieving chain of events threw me for a loop - my thanks to the comments section below for bailing me out - but a solid experience throughout!
Game is bugged, unfortunately. There's no way to talk to Melvin if you've already found him before. So, basically, it's a linear game where you have to follow the steps in the exact order that the dev planned, or else it gets softlocked.
Put the outlaw toy from sock kid in the macaroni pot, use the net from sad girl you gave chewed pencil to fish it out, then confront Melvin in the bathroom
Ok, concept and art was great, and so was the gameplay I guess, but thing is... The code isn't. The program is called "Made in Gamemaker Studio 2" and the installer says so aswell, which is quite confusing. I thought I was installing a framework or something, leading me to store it in a folder called "MiGM" (Made in Game Maker), which I will definitely forget forcing me to reinstall the game if I ever feel like playing it again.
Additionally, despite being windowed, it locks my mouse into the window; I can't move it out to do anything else - even just moving the game window - unless I press the start button or use alt + tab. Interestingly, the mouse is not locked during the opening scene of the game, despite already being locked on the main menu.
Interesting aspect of the game's strange mouse behaviour; if I start it from the executable directly (which is my only choice considering I declined the start menu shortcut since, y'know, I thought it was a framework), it usually (but not always) starts with the game minimised, which interestingly locks my mouse onto what seems to be a single, nonexistent pixel on the screen until I alt + tab into the game window. (The top left corner of the game's window, maybe?)
Also, I wasn't able to finish the game because I clicked the quarters in my inventory and an error occured, crashing the program and deleting my progress. This is a bug that is reproduced everytime I click the quarters in my inventory. It seems there is unfinished code for interacting with them, or something like that. (Update: turns out the quarters aren't the issue, the issue is clicking any part of the inventory that doesn't contain an item. This is a HUGE issue. It means I have to be careful whenever I interact with the inventory. Plus, Gilbert may lead people to believe they should just drag the quarters onto him like a normal item.)
Aditionally, during the initial dialogue, switching scenes with the arrow on the left or the subsequent arrow on the right will not only switch scenes, but also register that you clicked a dialogue option, which on it's own is a janky system that for some reason hides your mouse.
Plus, the blacktop door says "To the Blacktop", even when it is not yet usable. Also affects the front door.
Oh, and the open locker + all characters are layered over the mouse click effect.
I actually ended up finishing the game, but I needed to scour the comments to figure out how.
I believe I somehow made it glitch by obtaining the recorder too early so I couldn't finish it. But it is a very well made short game that has a really beautiful art design and a concept overall. Congratulations on such a brilliant game!
This game was super cute and fun! I love the art style and the dialogue, the concept was very enjoyable. It was a bit glitchy for some reason, but overall it was a fun experience. Definitely gonna recommend it to my friends! Can't wait to see more from you!! :)
Downloadable version crashes after 5-10 minutes of play on windows 10, so I had to come back and play the web version. Cool game, I like the concept and the writing is very cute. Presentation is REALLY nice, like proper professional game nice. Gonna check out the rest of your library.
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a puzzle to put the tape recorder together, and that my idea of having the PE coach break open the games machine didn't even have a line rejecting the solution. I suppose if it was a bigger game you could have added combining stuff in the inventory and all that.
Fun game! It would've been fun if the whistle made a whistle sound when you tried to use it on anything though... And if you do it too many times, the principal gets mad at you for causing a disturbance, and you get a game over screen. (just an idea)
Also, I found a bug:
If you get the battery before Chef Cheffy appears, it still gives this dialog.

Uff Cinema
You MUST try this, it will take just 10 minutes of your free-time if you're a speedrunner-type
I have never enjoyed something more. I dont know what it is about this but this is absolutely wonderful. I need 3 more games and a movie
i like the way Rhubarb's thinking...
Loved the gameplay and the illustrations! Helping each student to get different objects was fun and the dialogues were interesting.
Fun game. If I click an empty space in the bottom inventory popup, the game crashes.

I felt so bad for Melvin! Hits a little too close to home for me LOL.
This is so funny and clever. Loved it!

One of the best point and click games on this site
stop, this game is so cute
you have to give the sad girl outside of the school the chewed up pencil and she'll give you a net to fish out the battery
how do you take the battery out😭
Use the net you get from the sad girl in the screen to the left of CC
how do you fix the recorder because I don't know how.
Put the outlaw toy from sock kid in the macaroni pot, use the net from sad girl you gave chewed pencil to fish it out, then confront Melvin in the bathroom
This game is brilliant! I like being a detective (irl and in games)! I'm stuck at getting the sick notes for 'CC'. Can anyone help?
the key is next to Mia in the cafeteria the crate thing in the floor
What crate? From what I can see, there isn't one. Do you mean the vent because that isn't working either. (Thank you for helping me too!)
you're welcome, sometimes I mix up words it happens
how to get working cssete
Sportsball to Kimi

How to put the battery in the tape recorder? :<
Nvm, you don't need to put the battery. You just need to directly confront Melvin
